March 21, 1940 - January 23, 2018
Yvonne Shatto Jaynes was born in San Antonio, Texas on March 21, 1940. During her childhood, she moved with her parents Hal and Dotty Shatto, to Houston. While a student at Bellaire High School, Yvonne became very involved in drama, debate, and speech. While she was in high school, her parents were divorced, but each one continued to be there to support Yvonne in all her accomplishments.
Upon graduation from Bellaire High in 1958, she attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville. In 1960, she transferred to The University of Texas where she graduated in 1962.
In 1963, Yvonne moved to Wichita Falls, Texas where she married Jerry Wilder and started teaching drama and speech at Wichita Falls High School. Sadly, she was divorced from Jerry in 1965. It was, however, in Wichita Falls where the next phase of her life began. She received her Master’s degree from Midwestern State University, and met the love of her life, Leiland Jaynes. Yvonne did her student teaching under Leiland who was a drama and speech teacher at another high school. They were married March 4th 1967 and on May 25, 1970, their son Jason was born. Leiland, Yvonne, Jeri and Jason loved life in Wichita Falls. Yvonne was very active in the drama department at Wichita Falls High School, with her students participating and consistently winning UIL plays at the local and state level.
Leiland and Yvonne continued to compete against one another in drama and speech competitions both locally and state wide. They were members of the First Christian Church of Wichita Falls and belonged to a supper club where they visited a different home each month for a social dinner. In 1973 Yvonne moved to Notre Dame High School where she continued teaching and eventually transitioned to high school administration. She enjoyed that time immensely and still remains close to many of her Notre Dame students and colleagues. Ultimately, her greatest love was being a wife and mother. Jason graduated from North Texas and in 1992 and Yvonne and Leiland moved to the Conroe – Montgomery area after retirement in 1993. In 2001, their sweet daughter Jeri passed away suddenly from a devastating illness.
Yvonne was a loving member of a loud and boisterous family fondly called “The James Family”. She loved the time she spent with her aunts and all of her “sister-cousins”. She is survived by her loving son Jason Jaynes who she absolutely adored, and her “James Family”. Jason would like to thank her wonderful extended family at Pioneer Ridge Gracious Retirement Living in McKinney for making her last three years so wonderful. She renewed her passion for bridge and social events with her closest of friends Shirley Waller. In lieu of flowers or any type of public memorial service, Yvonne had expressed her wishes that small donations could be made to the Pug Rescue Society (www.dfwpugs.com) , the Texas School for the Blind (www.tsbvi.edu, (512) 206-9167), , or the James Family Scholarship Fund (c/o Earlynne Koch, 96 Beachwalk, Suite 201C, Conroe, Texas 77304, firstname.lastname@example.org). Yvonne’s family also thanks Davita Dialysis of McKinney and Vitas Hospice for the excellent care given to her.
